Your Body in Balance: The New Science of Food, Hormones, and Health
Dr. Neal Barnard is president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, DC. His new book is Your Body in Balance: The New Science of Food, Hormones, and Health. Dr. Barnard’s research paved the way for viewing type 2 diabetes as a potentially reversible condition for many people. In his latest study, his research team found a way to knock out menopausal hot flashes for many women, using just a simple diet change.
Dr. Barnard has conducted several studies with control groups and has shown how a plant based diet has been effective in Type II Diabetes healing and problems some women have going through menopause.
The menopause research study is quite interesting whereby women ate organic soybeans every day high in isoflavones that facilitated the cessation of hot flashes in just a few months.
His nutritional research studies have shown that a plant based diet, essentially vegan diet, has significant benefits on people going through diabetes, body weight issues, hormonal symptoms, and chronic pain.
This included a groundbreaking study funded by NIH showing type 2 Diabetes being a totally reversible condition.
He suggests the real issue with insulin resistance is too much of the wrong kind of fat in the cells.
His research shows fiber is key to gut health and thus a big advocate of beans and legumes, rice, corn and grains.
