CO2 & Respiratory Alkalosis

According to The Lancet, Sept. 17, 1988 …

“The effect of adding CO2 to inhaled air in six subjects with acute mountain sickness was investigated during a medical expedition to 5400 m.3% CO2 in ambient air increased ventilation and resulted in a rise in PaO2 of between 24% and 40%. There was a 9-28% increase in PaCO2 and a reduction of the respiratory alkalosis normally seen at high altitude. Symptoms of acute mountain sickness were rapidly relieved. In three subjects cerebral blood flow increased by 17-39%, so that oxygen delivery to the brain would have been considerably improved. This study confirms earlier suggestions of the beneficial effect of CO2 inhalation at high altitude.”

If you breathe carbon dioxide, you become more ACIDIC.

If you swallow baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), you become more ALKALINE.

Dr. Tullio Simoncini was partially right, and anyone who actually bothered to read his book would see that a 50/50 crap shoot is not good odds.

The turbinates of the nose mirror the acid-base values of a LESION (tumor, ulcer, etc.).

According to Emanuel Revici, M.D. (1961) …

“It is interesting to note that the changes in the nasal pH values parallel those seen at the level of lesions and are opposite to those concomitantly occurring in the urinary pH which parallel those of the titremetric alkalinity of the blood.”

According to the same source …

“Nasal pH was measured using a portable Beckman pH meter and a glass electrode small enough to penetrate deep into the nose. In a research made with N. Buchanan it was found that valid data could be obtained only if the electrode touched the turbinate, otherwise marked differences in values were noted.”

Re: Should I rub salt on my scalp or baking soda to get rid of the minor itching?

Depends on whether the itching is systemically acidic or alkaline, either by educated guesswork or a lab test involving seven parameters …

    1) total-blood potassium
    2) intracellular potassium
    3) extracellular (serum) potassium
    4) urine acid-base value
    5) urine specific gravity
    6) urine surface tension
    7) nasal acid-base value

Morning itching is more likely to be acidic, and evening itching is more likely to be alkaline.

    CARBON DIOXIDE: NOSE-BREATHING & BEYOND.

What’s so great about carbon dioxide? Isn’t it a poison?

Or, at best, a waste product of metabolism?

Is nasal breathing really so much better than mouth-breathing?

    And what about yawning?
