Essential Fatty Acids Are Not Essential

Ray Peat shouldn’t be understood too quickly.

According to some wooden-headed windbag blowing bubbles out his butt on the Weston A. Price website …

“While he [Ray Peat] gives out some good and intriguing information, one must be careful when listening to him. He mentions that there is no such thing as essential fatty acids. Well, yes there are. Dr. Mary Enig tried to straighten out his confusion on this subject in our Spring 2005 Wise Traditions, but apparently he is still confused. He also says we wouldn’t need vitamin E if we didn’t eat any polyunsaturated fats. Dr. Enig points out that there is some polyunsaturated fat in all food. So even if that is true, it is kind of like saying, ‘If pigs could fly, [fill in the blank].’ If pigs could fly, I would give him a thumbs up for saying things like that. THUMBS DOWN.”

Ray Peat DOES know that “essential fatty acids” exist.

But he also knows that “essential fatty acids” are NOT essential (and cites the relevant studies) …

Ray Peat (“Unsaturated Vegetable Oils: Toxic,” RayPeat dot com, 2006) wrote …

“Essential fatty acids (EFA) are, according to the textbooks, linoleic acid and linolenic acid, and they are supposed to have the status of ‘vitamins,’ which must be taken in the diet to make life possible. However, we are able to synthesize our own unsaturated fats when we don’t eat the ‘EFA,’ so they are not ‘essential.’ The term thus appears to be a misnomer. [M. E. Hanke, ‘Biochemistry,’ Encycl. Brit. Book of the Year, 1948.]”

Matt Stone defended Ray Peat on the Weston A. Price Foundation website (Mar. 8, 2010) …

“The longer Enig stays entrenched in the belief that nuts, seeds, cod liver oil, and poultry and pork fat are healthy for Americans, who already have 8 times the tissue concentration of PUFA’s that can be considered healthy, the longer they delay what could easily be the most significant thing a person can do to improve their health… Eat 1% of their dietary calories from PUFA’s as advised by the world’s leading PUFA expert, Dr. William Lands.”

I gave up psychedelics in the 1970s, but, being a True Libertarian (real Libertarians don’t wear neckties or vote or support corporations or the Cato Institute), I think all drugs should be legal and accessible (including prescription drugs and patent medicines), just like they were before the Civil War …

Kirk Douglas is giving away $80 million. Wish he’d make a donation to the Santa Barbara Sun Sync School of Self Healing, so we could hit the ground running. We’d also like him to teach some Longevity workshops, since he’s 98 Revolutions Around the Sun and gaining momentum. (Maybe it has something to do with being long-time friends with Gypsy Boots?) …

“We as mature Americans are now getting drugs only if we need them. We can’t get them because we want them. This to me is the quintessence of infantilism. In a capitalist free society you get something because you want it and you pay for it. It doesn’t matter how many cars you have, the dealer doesn’t ask you, ‘Do you need another one?’ Or, ‘Do you need a bigger one?’ They don’t ask you, ‘Why do you need a six-cylinder engine? Why is the four not enough? Are you planning to speed? Are you planning to abuse the horsepower of it?'” — Thomas Szasz

Now even the banks have taken it upon themselves to be your guardians.
When cashing a check they demand to know what you intend to do with the cash.
Then further insult your intelligence by asking for a 1% fee.

I used to enter the bank at one minute before closing time to jack with them.

Sometimes a small leak can sink a great ship. :)
