Under the category of marketing hype is a supplement sold under the name IP-6.

Inositol hexaphosphate (IP-6) sounds scientific, but it’s garden-variety name is phytate.

Phytate (or phytic acid) is the same “antinutrient” nutritionists warn us to avoid in grains and soybeans.

Nutritionists warn us not to eat unleavened bread because of its phytate content – whereas phytate is destroyed by leavening bread.

Then these jokers turn right around and sell you the same phytate for a more exorbitant price under a more “scientific” and high-falutin’ name at the “health food” store.

IP-6 really can prevent and fight cancer – enhancing natural killer cell activity.

But the truth is it’s due to all the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients phytate makes UNAVAILABLE to the body.

That’s right, it fights cancer because it’s “antinutritive.”

Ordinary inositol – aka meso-inositol, myo-inositol, inosite, vitamin Bh, meat sugar, or hexahydroxycyclohexane – is anticarcinogenic too.

Hey, did you know flavonoids are also potent antinutrients?

That’s why you find them in toxicology books.

Flavonoids also inhibit digestive enzymes and mess with protein absorption.

Now let’s consider two people taking vitamin K.

One is taking vitamin K synthesized by scientists and the other is using the “natural” one.

Isaac Asimov (The Chemicals of Life, 1954) wrote …

“The molecule of the [synthetic] substitute is like that of the real thing except that it is simpler. Whereas Vitamin K has two rings of carbon atoms in its molecule with a long ‘tail’ of more carbon atoms attached, the substitute has merely the rings without the tail. The interesting thing about it is that the substitute is over a hundred times as effective as the real thing. So here is one place where the chemist has outdone nature.”

The chemist “outdoing nature” is scientific hubris.

Synthesizing a molecule to be a hundred times more effective is not “outdoing nature.”

For example, I’m typing this text in the light of a 75 watt light bulb.

If I replaced it with a 7,500 watt light bulb, would it be an improvement or would I need extra-dark sunglasses to prevent blindness?

The uptake of substances into and/or across tissue is not just about CHEMISTRY.

It’s also about …

(1) SHAPE,

(2) SIZE,

(3) PENETRATION, and

(4) TIMING.

Think about it.

I do not understand what your problem with physic acid is. If it’s an anti nutrient, we can simply replace nutrients with a natural multivitamin and healthy foods, no?

Since when is phytic acid *fighting* cancer a problem?

Do you prefer phytic acid to *cause* cancer?

It’s hard to wrap my head around your question. (lololol).

      <>

Excess vitamins and minerals are a significant cause of cancer, and phytic acid blocks their uptake.

How do you think those medieval monks lived over 100 on bread and water and in dark cells without any sunlight?

How do you think mobster John “Sonny” Franzese Sr. is still alive at 103 after 50 years in prison?

I managed four health food stores (Carpinteria, Austin, Houston, Portland) and a supplement department (Hawaii) in a fifth, so I can really dish out the dirt about supplements to a fare-thee-well.

The pharmaceutical cartel is Bad Cop and the supplement cartel is Good Cop, and they both work for The Man.
