Carotenoids For Vitamin A

Most people can handle carotenoids.

Baby carrots are for those who NEED retinol.

Otherwise, the carotenoids in mature carrots are fine and dandy.

The same goes for baby peas and baby bok choy.

<>

If your iris has orange pigments, your metabolism can’t efficiently utilize and eliminate carotenoids.

If you turn yellow-orange (xanthoderma) after drinking moderate amounts of carrot juice, you can’t handle carotenoids.

Easily acquired carotenemia is associated with “diabetes mellitus, nephritic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, hypothyroidism, anorexia nervosa, and primary hepatic disease.”

Add cancer to the list.

Pierre Baldet, et al. (“Vitamins in Fleshy Fruit,” Fruit Ripening, 2019) wrote …

“In plants, carotenoids are essential components of the photosynthetic system, in which they contribute to the stabilization of lipid membranes and to light harvesting for photosynthesis. Because of their chemical properties, they have a crucial function in protecting the photosynthetic apparatus against chlorophyll bleaching in intense light. In addition, carotenoids are precursors of the plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA). Carotenoids are also natural pigments acting as colouring agents in flowers and fruits, where their function is to attract animals to disseminate their seeds.”

Lycopene is the Big Daddy of carotenoids.

All carotenoids are derived from — or through — lycopene.

<>

Only Sheep-Bots supplement with carotenoids.

Too much mischief occurs during a supplement’s handling, extraction, and processing.

PS from At-OM — Regarding lycopene, I put ketchup on my tomatoes.

There’s nothing wrong with taking an iodine supplement for short periods. Probably 6 weeks at a time is OK.

Long-term use causes serious diseases, and most people living in the First World overdose on iodine due to numerous sources, both suspected and unsuspected.

    Atom,

That’s facinsting! My eyes have lot of orangeish-yellow in them, so I should stick to the preformed retinol version of vitamin A in foods like liver? (grain finished to limit lypofuscin and omega 3 of course :)

I have never seen anyone else besides my mom with orange in the iris, I didn’t even know it was a thing! Anything else of note that an orange iris tells me about my biology (I have turquoise/ orange eyes)
