Dr. Garrett L. Smith is a licensed naturopathic physician in three states (AZ, WA, OR) who practices primarily clinical nutrition and functional medicine in Tucson, Arizona. He has written online for 180 Degree Health, The Performance Menu, and the Weston A. Price Foundation. He earned his naturopathic medical degree from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and his B.S. in Physiology degree from the University of Arizona. Also a certified strength coach, he has trained and competed in many sports, ranging from baseball to triathons to Olympic weightlifting. So glad you had Dr. Smith on. I discovered him a few weeks ago and – having developed severe(bleeding, oozing, flaking) eczema on my face and hands 6 months ago – coincidentally, after adding daily high dose Cod Liver Oil for a year trying to get my Vitamin D levels up. So I decided to try going no-Vitamin A. The first three days on the diet I pee’d non-stop and lost a full 10 pounds! Within a week, the eczema on my hands TOTALLY cleared up and the eczema on my face reduced to just a patch of small flakes – no bleeding, redness, oozing or even pink skin anymore! Also, my ‘frozen’ left shoulder and pains in other various joints just went away. AND I noticed on my daily walks up and down hills I was no longer winded after my biggest hill climb.
I found this all amazing and I think this guy is really onto something. I plan to do this diet for at least 3 months to see what else gets better! FYI, I am 65 and was eating an all organic, but very high Vitamin A diet for the past few years – yams, grassfed butter on everything, squashes, dark leafy greens, etc. but I think the cod liver oil put me over the edge. Plus I ate a ton of coconut oil, MCT oil, and other coconut based foods which act as an emulsifier that keeps recylcling Vitamin A through the body.
I recommend downloading the free e-books on Vitamin A Toxicity from Grant Generoux – found them extremely helpful for really understanding this problem. Thanks for having Dr. Smith on! I’d really like to hear more about the connection to EMF Hypersensitivity from him if that might be the focus of a show?

Just an adjunct publication: Dr. Garrett Smith M.D.mentioned the rainbow food spectrum early on in this interview. A classic book by Gabriel Cousens M.D. “SPIRITUAL NUTRITION AND THE RAINBOW DIET (1986). A must read.
