Dr. Thomas O’Brien
Author of Medical Marijuana, Real-life Success Stories
In his new book, “Medical Marijuana, Real-life Success Stories”, Dr. Thomas O’Brien, ll New York City, hopes to educate people by explaining how medical marijuana can be used to help alleviate the symptoms of many medical conditions and help them find the relief they need, he explained. “My book gives the reader a look into the journeys that 12 of my patients have traveled while being treated using medical marijuana. For example, one individual went from being unable to go out on a date due to Irritable Bowel Disease to now being engaged and on the way to the altar. Another patient was suffering from chronic pain and opioid abuse and is now pain free, and more importantly, narcotic free,” he pointed out. Medical Marijuana can be used to treat a variety of medical conditions without the harmful side affects associated with pharmaceuticals, OBrien noted. These include ALS, Cancer, Chronic Pain, Epilepsy, HIV/AIDS MS, Neuropathy, Opioid Addiction, PTSD, Parkinsons and many others, he writes. The two main chemicals used for medicinal purposes are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). THC is the chemical in marijuana that has psychoactive properties. However, with a new CBD-dominant strain there is little, if any, intoxicating effects and the medicinal qualities of the marijuana plant can be better utilized, Obrien explained. CBD is the chemical in marijuana that has anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmatic properties. Additionally, CBD has anti-angiogenesis properties which results in the shrinkage and killing of cancer cells. THC helps with neuropathic pain relief, fights and kills cancer cells, stimulates appetite and works as a sleep aid.
