Excellent interview Patrick! Dr.Danel sets the record straight. A little insight on the glutamate – GABA connection.
Glutamine is an amino acid and talks about the proper conversation to GABA. Glutamate is an excitatory neurotransmitter and needs cofactors to form GABA ( B1 B6 Mg Zn) This facilitates the enzymatic pathway to form GABA. If glutamate is blocked by this conversion then the buildup causes inflammation and we have symptoms: intestinal complaints, anxiety , sleep difficulties, focus, concentration. GABA promotes calmness and the the relaxation response. MSG is the pure form, but glutamate is found in a lot of processed foods: organic and inorganic. This is why Dr. Daniels discussed that bone broth, She said that some people need to go slowly on introducing this product into their diet.
